About The Author
John Burningham has been nominated for the 2012 Hans Christian Andersen Award. The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are presented every two years by IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) to an author and an illustrator whose complete works have made an important and lasting contribution to children's literature. The winners will be announced at the Bologna Children's Book Fair on Monday, 19 March 2012.
John Burningham is one of the most prestigious and best-loved illustrators working in the children's book field today. Trained at the Central School of Art, his first picture book, Borka was published in 1963. He has won numerous awards during his distinguished career including the Kate Greenaway Medal (twice) and the Kurt Maschler Award and his books are enjoyed by children all over the world.
